In
the last several years we have witnessed the mergers of major oil and gas
companies along with the mergers of large independents. What that means to the
thousands of independent companies in the U.S. is better prospects in the form
of "farmouts", lease acquisitions and divestitures, most of which
utilizing 2-d and 3-d seismic.
Many of these firms allow the investing public access to these types of
exploration and development projects via private placements. One of the ways
in which these private placements can be
offered, is through duly licensed Broker-Dealers. While it's true that these types
of Private Placements offer the investor full utilization of tax benefits and
the potential of a higher rate of return, it comes with a higher degree of
risk as well.
It's the entrepreneurial spirit of the independent oil & gas companies
that account for most of the oil and gas drilled nationwide in any given year.
Much of our domestic oil and gas reserves can be attributed to the role of the
investing public in the process described above.
